Story background:

The AMC Squad is a paramilitary group formed by a man whose identity is unknown to all but a select few in the EDF and EAF. Using funds from both agencies, he hired an old friend to track down 7 of the best and most skilled fighters in the Solar System, after the disappearance of Earth's greatest hero. This squad was formed to tackle the most severe threats to Earth's safety, including fighting off the notorious Cycloid race of aliens. However, they inadvertently set into motion a sequence of events that dramatically increase the scale of conflict, and they must soon deal with a threat that is new to even the most supernatural members of the team.

Can you fight as the AMC Squad, and take care of this threat? Will you scour the battlefield, find and acquire research and equipment and tackle the threat strategically, or simply run in guns blazing? Will you choose to play as Sangluss, a warlock with great power who overcame a dark past? Or as Merlijn, a knight from Holland who wields ancient weaponry to deadly effect? As Mikko, the cybernetic leader of MS Corp industries, who brings a range of deadly and hi-tech weaponry to the battlefield? Or as Highwire, who relies only on his good old-fashioned military rifles, and a trusty bottle of Vodka?

Whomever you choose, be prepared for the fight of a lifetime.

Install instructions

Windows Users:

Unzip the contents of the archive into a clean folder and launch "amcsquad.exe". The initial startup may take some time, during which the operating system may think the binary is not responding. Be patient -- the game will start eventually.

For the patch, unzip the contents in your existing game directory and overwrite all files.

Linux Users:

1. Extract the contents of the zip into an empty subfolder anywhere within your home directory.
- Write access is required, as savegames and game progress will be stored directly within the install directory.
- **VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT EXTRACT THE PACKAGE INTO AN EXISTING "AMC TC" OR "AMC SQUAD" FOLDER. THE GAME MAY BREAK AS A RESULT.**

2. We have included experimental Linux AMD64 binaries with this release, which were compiled on Ubuntu 24.04.
- Simply run this binary, and the game should start up. If this does not work, you may need additional system libraries -- see below.
- In case this also does not work, then clone the repository at https://github.com/dibollinger/amcduke32/ and follow the compile instructions to build both the `amcsquad` and `mapster32` binaries.
- Note that with every release of AMC Squad, there are significant changes to the game binaries, hence we recommend compiling a build with the appropriate release tag for a new installation.
- Copy the compiled binaries over into the base folder of your AMC Squad directory. The binaries must be placed in this folder for the game data to be loaded correctly.

3. If you had a previous version of the game installed in a different folder, you will need to copy the following folders and files from your old installation directory into the new one:
- `./DATA`
- `./amcsquad.cfg`
- `./settings.cfg`
- These files contain all settings and progress of your previous installation. Simply overwrite any existing files in the new installation, and you're good to go.

Note that the first startup may take longer than normal. This occurs due to texture precaching. Subsequent startups should be much faster.

For reference, the Linux binary was built with the following system libraries installed:
- `build-essential`
- `nasm`
- `libgl1-mesa-dev`
- `libglu1-mesa-dev`
- `libsdl1.2-dev`
- `libsdl-mixer1.2-dev`
- `libsdl2-dev`
- `libsdl2-mixer-dev`
-`flac`
- `libflac-dev`
- `libvorbis-dev`
- `libvpx-dev`
- `libgtk2.0-dev`
- `freepats`

Alternatively, grab a flatpak:
https://flathub.org/apps/io.itch.amcsquad.amcsquad

Important Note:

The directory you unzip the game data to must not be write-protected! The game saves progress inside the folder directly. Therefore, unzipping the contents into a folder under "Program Files" will not work.

Please add a "potato settings" or "disable bubbles" option. The bubbles are causing my friends game to lag heavily at the pool on esoteric hunting.

I did not think ep 5 was out yet... this game is full blown now

(1 edit) (-5)

Any actual non-human playables or instances where you ride or ally with a creature more creative than a horse (like, literally, anything else)?

Edit: Apparently one of the playable characters is a Fossa, which okay, that's something new.

(+5)(-2)

There are 2 playable "furry" characters and EP5 adds 1 more.

(1 edit) (-6)

...Is there a reason you quotated "furry?"

Also, it's always cool seeing anthros of exotic animals. Again, never seen a Fossa anthro before.

(+4)(-1)

Are there any specific concerns you have about non-human characters?

(+1)(-4)

I just think it'd be cool to see them, and like I said, Fossas are animals you don't see very often, which I think is neat. ;)

Best TC  for "Duke Nukem 3D" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(1 edit)

Does the Flatpak not yet include Episode 4? Or if it does, how do you start it?

I finished Episodes 1-3 and the EDF and holiday missions, then looped back and replayed a few missions because I missed some secrets. But now there is no way to start Episode 4.

Selecting only Episode 4, in the mission filters, shows only the AMC Vehicle Testing Site, New LA and Sector 14B as visitable locations, and the air bases and satellites as hoverable, but nothing else.

Great game, by the way. Far more content than I initially expected. And awesome music on many of the maps.

Sorry for the late reply, we're not very active on itch.io. In any case, new episodes can be started via New game -> Start from episode via the main menu.

Hey there, I am a YouTuber named Zakaria focusing on Indie Games Reviews and Game Testing Sessions, and even Gameplay Walkthroughs. I am adding this new project for the sake of helping indie games and the devs where I review 100+ games every single day to bring the Top Best Games, I am glad to let you know yours made it on the list.

I am planning to keep doing this every single day but it takes a long time to prepare and lots of energy, because of that I would use some support as a moral motivation so I am asking (those who are interested in such content of course) to Subscribe to the channel and join in. I do hope this helps to spot some lights on such deserving games.

What Duke Nukem Forever couldn't, The AMC Squad did: give proper continuity not only to the classic Duke Nukem 3D, but also expand the universe of the franchise. What an amazing TC. So far I'm still waiting for a Duke Nukem Zero Hour TC, but The AMC Squad is satisfying my desire for now. Congratulations guys for this great job!
